LENGTH: 160 hybrid classroom/lab hours & 100 externship hours (Approximately 18 weeks) |
COST: $2,250 Tuition + $165 Fees. Fees include one certification exam voucher to test with National Healthcareer Association. Fees do NOT include textbooks or supplies. |
The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Course is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination to get their certification. Certification is granted by the certifying organization after receiving a passing grade on the exam.
NOTE: This program is hybrid. It is a blend of in-person lecture and lab plus additional mandatory online material that all students must complete. Students must have reliable computer and internet access to complete the online content outside of scheduled classroom time. |

Notice to Students Regarding Licensing – Criminal History Effective September 1st 2017, HB 1508 amends the Texas Occupations Code Section 53 that requires education providers to notify you a potential or enrolled student that a criminal history may make you ineligible for an occupational license upon program completion. Please contact the Office of Continuing Education should you wish to request a review of the impact of criminal history on your potential certification prior to registration or during the program. This information is being provided to all persons who apply or enroll in the program with notice of the requirements as described above, regardless of whether or not the person has been convicted of a criminal offense. Additionally, HB 1508 authorizes licensing agencies to require reimbursements when a student fails to receive the required notice. |
