Weldon Hafley (1964)
Educational Leadership / Veteran
Class of 1964 | Inducted 2023
Weldon Hafley attended Navarro College 1962 - 64 on a basketball scholarship and was named All Conference in 1964. In 1966, he received a B.S. from University of North Texas and completed his M.Ed. at UNT in 1973. His coaching career abruptly hit “pause” when he was drafted to the U.S. Army, where he served a year in Vietnam and received the Army Commendation Medal. In 1968, he resumed teaching and coaching at Eagle Mt-Saginaw, Denison, and Azle ISDs. He joined EM-S ISD as an administrator in 1978, and served as principal at Eagle Mt. Elementary, Wayside Middle, and Boswell High Schools before joining central office as Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. He completed his career as EM-S ISD Superintendent. While superintendent, the district opened its second high school and created a Child Development Center for pre-K and child care, which now bears his name. Following retirement, Weldon served as interim superintendent for Lake Worth, Azle, EM-S, and Irving ISDs. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Region 11 Service Center. A deacon at First Baptist Church in Saginaw, Weldon spends as much time as possible perfecting his golf game. He believes that Navarro not only made higher education a reality, but also helped him fully grasp the importance of respecting all individuals.
